Aiming Essentials 5 – Crosshair Placement

Crosshair Placement is the final frontier in our Aiming Essentials journey. Let’s take a look at a simple technique that will greatly increase your accuracy today.

I’m Ready! What’s the Technique?

Crosshair placement is aiming your crosshair only at areas that an enemy is likely to be or to appear.

It’s very common for players to look at the ground when moving around because it clears up the field of vision which may look nice, but in reality it’s making the first shot far more difficult than it should be. The same goes for looking at walls when turning corners and any other errant aiming behaviour that doesn’t serve a specific purpose.

Aim Small, Miss Small

The further you have to move your crosshair to get on to a target, the more likely you are to miss; it is that simple. Placing your crosshair where an enemy is likely to next be ensures your best chance that the crosshair is going to align with an enemy — with minimal corrections required. If you’re looking at the floor, you may have a large, diagonal flick to perform while a player utilising crosshair placement may not have to aim at all, or only need to perform a micro or minor flick.

Click on Their Heads!

A smart idea with crosshair placement is to place your crosshair at head height. A quick-and-easy headshot is a great way to instantly win a fight.
