A Guide To Being Competitive in Apex Legends Season 8

To celebrate the launch of our new 2.0.4.0 update and the beginning of Apex Legend’s season 8, we’ve put together an aiming guide that utilizes our new featured playlists in KovaaK 2.0 to take your aim to the next level.

At the time of posting, we currently have official, curated Apex Legends playlists for tracking and clicking. Something worth taking a look at is the unique scenario selection. When appropriate, we modified existing scenarios to include humanoid targets with robust animations that allow you to read their movement and better prepare for fights in Apex Legends.

The current featured playlists also include playlists from our amazing partners N0ted and Iron. N0ted has put together a list of his favorite scenarios to train for Valorant, while Iron has included his Warzone warm-up that has helped propel him to a record breaking 3000+ wins.

Tips and Advice

1) Focus on Your Target

It may sound simple, but there is a massive difference between looking at a target, and focusing on a target. Imagine looking into a ceiling fan, it’s right there in front of you but the blades are just a blur. Yet, if you really try, you can focus on a single blade spinning around. This is the different level of focus you need to tap into in-game.

2) Read Enemy Movement

We have mentioned reading movement, but what does that entail? The simplest part is watching your target for clues about their future movement. An enemy jumping shouldn’t be something that throws you off, instead, it is an opportunity to lazer them down as they have locked themselves into a predictable trajectory. Knowing where someone is moving makes aiming significantly easier than reacting to them.

Crouching, strafing, jumping, running etc are all inputs entered by someone behind their screen. Understanding what they want to do next is key to ensuring incredible accuracy.  No matter how good someone is at aiming, their reaction time will cause them to miss when an enemy changes position unexpectedly. Reading movement and predicting what they want to do lets you plan out aiming movements ahead of time so reaction time is no longer a factor.

If you surprise an enemy in the open and get some early damage on them, chances are they will be running directly to the closest cover, knowing their destination lets you ‘draw’ your mouse over a predetermined path for easy hits. The same goes for getting caught out and taking damage. If you were to be chased through a building on low hp, there’s a good chance your opponent will be chasing after you in a direct line going for the finish, should they strafe or play evasive they risk you outrunning them. This can let you set up an easy headshot to quickly turn the tides on that fight as you can know exactly where they will be in the moments ahead.

3) Optimize Mouse Sensitivity

Playing on an appropriate mouse sensitivity is key to consistent and accurate aim. If you were to use 3200 DPI and play Apex Legends on the default mouse sensitivity of 5 you would be playing on 2.6cm/360. It would take just 2.6cm of real life movement to perform a 360 degree rotation in-game. That sensitivity is unbelievably high and even the best aimers on earth would struggle terribly on these settings. Considering professional players tend to play between 20-45cm/360, default settings can be extremely disadvantageous. While there will always be outliers who perform best outside the norm, it’s a safe bet that a good sensitivity for you will sit somewhere within that range.

We highly recommend experimenting with your settings to find what allows you to perform at your best. There is no need to worry about losing muscle memory when changing settings, it only takes minutes to perhaps a few hours to adjust to a new sensitivity. The benefits of finding a sensitivity that you perform best on significantly outweighs whatever comfort you may find in sticking to one sub-optimal sensitivity forever.
